There are many different ways to build a display case. It all depends on the size of the case and what you wish to store inside of it. If you are wondering how you can build a display, this is a guide for a small but common sized case.
Step 1. Assembling Plexiglass
- Purchase 1/8-inch plexiglass to sit atop your wooden base of the display.
- Measure out three pieces of plexiglass to fit your display properly.
Step 2. Cutting Plexiglass
- Once the plexiglass sizes are correct, it’s time to cut the material.
- Use a band saw for accurate and clean cuts.
- A circular saw with a fine blade can be used if you do not have a band saw.
- Keep the wood steady throughout the cutting process.
- Use sandpaper on the edges after cutting the plexiglass.
- Make the edges as even as you possibly can.
Step 3. Gluing
- Next you must glue the plexiglass pieces together.
- Use a good amount of glue to ensure the pieces stay intact.
- Try to use a methylene chloride glue for this step.
- Start by joining one side piece and one end piece.
- Glue around the straight corner piece of the wood, ensuring a 90-degree angle.
- Hold the pieces together until they are secure.
- Let the glue dry.
- Repeat the process with all sides of the plexiglass.
- Once the pieces are dry, glue them to form a rectangle.
- Attach the top of the case by dry fitting it to ensure a proper fit.
Step 4. Smoothing Wood Plinth
- A wood plinth will allow you to either make the case bigger or smaller.
- Sand and stain the wood with the desired color.
- Allow the wood to dry completely before placing the case on top.
